For ease and convenience when using Japan’s public transportation system, get yourself a Welcome Suica card. It is a prepaid, rechargeable card that you can use to pay for train and bus fares around the country by simply touching it on a reader every time you enter and exit a train station or get on or off a bus.
Can be reloaded multiple times and you can use the same card for the entire validity period. You can only re-charge the card using cash.
You can re-charge your Welcome Suica card at any ticket vending machine, convenience store, etc. The maximum amount you can load onto your Welcome Suica card is ¥20,000.
The card cannot be used after the validity period ends (6th May 2023).
The Welcome Suica card can be used anywhere within a specific area but cannot be used across multiple areas.
IMPORTANT When using the Welcome Suica card, the reference paper must be carried at all times and shown to station employees if requested. If you lose your reference paper, it can easily be reprinted at automatic and multifunctional ticket machines (if you are unsure, please ask station staff for help).
